Active Shooter Preparedness (Mooresville)

Active Shooter Preparedness

Personal safely has always been one of the key goals of Point Blank Range. In response to recent well-publicized horrific events in our country and abroad, PBR is offering an Active Shooter Preparedness class. The ASP course provides students with the background information and mindset to prepare to respond to an active shooter situation. Students will obtain knowledge and skills that will help reduce panic and improve survivability by incorporating an appropriate RUN, HIDE, FIGHT response.

An “Active Shooter” is an individual or small group of individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area by any means including but not limited to firearms (most frequently used), bladed weapons, vehicles, or any tool that in the circumstance in which it is used constitutes deadly physical force. Most active shooter situations are unpredictable, evolve quickly, and are over within minutes. To counter an Active Shooter situation immediate response is necessary.  This requires preparation.

The Active Shooter Preparedness (ASP) course provides students with the information and mindset needed to prepare to respond to an active shooter situation. ASP is designed for groups and individuals seeking to be more prepared at work, at home, and out in public.

Some information that will be covered:

  • Be ready to take immediate action when confronted with an active shooter situation
  • Recognize potential workplace and public event violence indicators
  • Describe actions to take to prevent and prepare for potential active shooter incidents
  • Recognize  when to RUN  /  HIDE  /  FIGHT
  • Know how to work with responding law enforcement officials

Not all the scenarios and situations discussed here will be applicable at every location for every student.  However, this course will ready the student to develop or enhance his or her own location-specific plans and procedures.

*This class has no live fire.

S.A.F.E. SECURE AWARE FIERCE and EFFECTIVE Womens Self Defense (Mooresville)

Point Blank is proud to offer an important 3 hour class geared towards women’s self-defense. Your trainer Joe has 28 years of discipline and training in several styles of martial arts and holds multiple black belts. In addition, he has over 13 years of teaching experience in martial arts.
Joe is a retired New York City police officer with strong criminal investigatory experience. A key part of this experience lies within interviewing victims of assault and discovering how they either succumbed to or evaded life-threatening situations. After speaking to many victims over the years, Joe became passionate about helping women understand, learn and implement simple techniques that, if employed properly, can save lives or create critical opportunities to escape. As a father of two young girls, it is especially meaningful for Joe to pass along this knowledge towards empowering women.
The combination of both a martial arts and police background has given Joe a unique streetwise and in-depth first-hand view of which defense techniques work and, very importantly, why they work. Many of the techniques he teaches are based on the highest probability of stopping an attack. For example, a groin strike may work 40% of the time whereas a finger strike in the eye will likely work 95% of the time. Prevention of an assault often has a small window, thus what you choose to do must count in that moment.
Through Joe’s process of discovery he as selected a style of short simple skills and techniques for this class that work regardless of your size, strength or ability.
Why is this class different from other Women’s Self Defense classes?
• Many of the techniques taught in traditional women’s self-defense training are too complicated for the average person to properly execute without regular training. By comparison, these techniques are short, to the point and work.
• FBI journals indicate a high percentage of attacks can be avoided using good verbal skills and situational awareness. This seemingly simple fact is often overlooked, but will be reviewed in your class.
• The techniques will work regardless of size, strength, age or ability.
• This class comes with a take home refresher video that breaks down the techniques for your convenient review and ongoing training.
Avoid becoming a victim and help yourself feel secure: This introductory class will teach you basic mental awareness skills as well as practical physical techniques used for women’s defense. These proven methods are easy to master, specific, and most of all effective.

Performance is measured against established scores the take you from beginning skill levels (Pro-Marksman, Marksman) through intermediate levels (Marksman 1st Class, Sharpshooter and expert) all the way to a nationally recognized skill level (Distinguished Expert). Scores are challenging, but attainable, and when you meet or exceed a rating requirement, you are entitled to the corresponding recognition awards for that rating. It’s fun! It’s self-paced.

Point Blank Range is excited to offer organized sessions for women who would like to participate. We have NRA Certified Instructors on hand to instruct, coach and encourage you along the path to Distinguished Expert.

See what some of our Ladies On Target Distinguished Experts have to say about this activity.

Low Light/No Light Defensive Handgun (Mooresville)

It’s been said that, “They mostly come out at night". Over 60% of all violent encounters happen during the hours of darkness.

This class will give an understanding how the use of a light could be a disadvantage and how to turn it into an advantage. You need to know how and when to use different illumination techniques to get the upper hand on a threat. Just having a gun and a flashlight are not enough.
This course is designed to help prepare you for a personal defense situation where there is low light or no light particularly in a home defense context. This class is essential for new pistol owners as well as experienced shooters. You will be introduce to multiple illumination techniques and types of equipment.

Most critical incidents occur during times of low-light or even complete darkness. Training during daylight
hours alone is not preparing you to win should you ever need to fight with your firearm in the dark.

Items to bring to class:

Pistol- Semi-automatic or revolver (train with what you use in real life)
At least 2-3 magazines (or speed loaders for revolver)
100-200 rounds of reliable ammunition (that will comply with all PBR rules)
Eye protection (can be rented)
Ear protection (can be rented)
Hand held light
OR..Pistol mounted light
Notebook with pen/pencil

NRA Certified Rifle Instructor - (Mooresville)

NRA Basic Rifle Instructor Certification Training

Schedule

NOTE: Your Class fee includes lunch for both days.

Saturday - 10AM - 5PM - NRA Rifle Instructor Part I

Sunday - 10AM - 5PM - NRA Rifle Instructor Part II

The NRA Rifle Shooting Instructor course designed to teach the instructor candidate the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to become an NRA Certified Rifle Shooting Instructor.  Candidates should posses a basic knowledge of all types of modern rifles and period center fire and rim fire rifles in all action types, an understanding of basic marksmanship principles, and have a deep appreciation for the safe handling of any firearm.  In addition to these personal attributes, each candidate is required to be up to date on the NRA’s Basic Instructor Training (BIT).  BIT is not offered in conjunction with this course, but if you have been certified as an instructor in the previous 12 months and took part in BIT, you may not be required to take it again.  Please email NRA Training Counselor, Eric Taylor at etaylor@PointBlankRange.com or Mike Denney at mdenney@pointblankrange.com if you have any questions regarding your suitability for this instructor level training.  (Please allow 48 hours for a response and more for holidays.)

It is important to note that the NRA sets the requirement for Basic Instructor Training and it is not an option.  Everyone must take it at least once because it introduces the instructor candidate to the NRA way of teaching.  We get many requests to consider waiving BIT because of LEO or Military career history, and it is not possible.

To qualify as an NRA Instructor:

1. Candidates must possess and demonstrate a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience. Instructor candidates must be intimately familiar with each action type in the discipline they wish to be certified.

2. Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearms handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and assessment exercises administered by the NRA Appointed Training Counselor.

3. Candidates must satisfactorily complete an NRA Instructor Training Course in the discipline they wish to teach (e.g., NRA Basic Pistol Course), and receive the endorsement of the NRA Training Counselor conducting that training.

For more information about this class, please email Training@PointBlankRange.com and give us 48 hours to return your query.

Full course payment is required upon registration.  If you have already been certified as an NRA Shooting Instructor or Chief Range Safety Officer, you may not have to take BIT.  Please contact Eric Taylor at Training@PointBlankRange.com if you are unsure of what to do.

Refund policy: We do not offer refunds on any training or instruction course if you change your mind or are unable to attend.  If you cancel your registration in advance of the scheduled course, you may be entitled to a store credit that can be applied toward a future training course or other store merchandise, as described below.   Many of the courses have limits on the number of participants.  In order to keep the cost of the course low and keep our instructors committed, we commit to the number of participants based on your registration.  In other words, if you change your mind or are unable to attend, the instructor must still be paid for your spot in the course.  To cancel your registration and receive the applicable store credit, an e-mail must be sent to training@pointblankrange.com.  Cancellations over the phone or in person in the store will not be honored.  Your registration in a course may be transferred to another person if that person meets all training prerequisites and is otherwise qualified to take the course, provided you give us at least 2 days prior notice by e-mail with the name, e-mail address and phone number for your substitute.

Cancellation by PBR – Some courses require a minimum number of participants, as noted in the course description.  If you register for a course with a minimum and the minimum number of participants have not registered by the end of the day which is 2 days prior to the course, Point Blank Range reserves the right to cancel the course and refund your registration fee.  There may also be occasions where the instructor is not available to teach the course and a satisfactory substitute is not available, and the course must be cancelled and rescheduled.   In such cases, you will receive an e-mail and phone call notifying you of the cancellation and rescheduling of the course.  If you are unable to attend the course on the rescheduled date, we would be pleased to refund your registration fee upon written request by e-mail received at least 2 days prior to the rescheduled course date.

NC Concealed Carry Update Lunch Break Workshop (Matthews)

NCCHPRNC Concealed Carry Update Lunch Break Workshop

Last October, the NC laws governing use of force, the Castle Doctrine, and where you may carry concealed was changed.  Very recently, the 9th Circuit Court ruled that Individuals do not have the right to carry concealed at all.

If it’s been awhile since you’ve taken you’re Concealed Carry Class, you may not be current on the laws regarding these issues.  Our instructors have been to the Department of Justice and received the upgraded training so that we may bring it home to you.

This class is open to all who currently hold a NC Concealed Handgun Permit.  With the implementation of these changes and recent events spotlighted by the media, the importance of current training is obvious.

Lunch Will Be Served!
